B. B. King Died

The year 2015 was surely a sad year for one reason – the world lost The King of the Blues. B. B. King died back then at the age of 89 in his sleep.

Along with Albert King and Freddie King, this legendary musician was considered to be one of the Three Kings of the Blues Guitar.

During his life-long career, B. B. King won 15 Grammy Awards, but did you know that in his childhood his mother was against his ambitions to make and perform music? Moreover, she hated blues – she even proclaimed it the Devil’s music.

However, B. B. King’s love for music was greater than anything, so he believed in himself and began his career in local radio and juke joints.

Fun fact – Bukka White, a well-known blues guitarist and singer as well, was B. B. King’s first cousin from his mother’s side.

Liquid Water Found On Mars

Have you ever wondered is there life outside our planet? For years and years, we’ve been listening about scientists trying to find some source of life somewhere in the universe, and in 2015 they finally managed to do it!

The news that there is water on Mars, our first-neighbor planet, exploded like a bomb.

Although it didn’t mean by itself that it was true evidence of life existing on the surface of Mars, finding liquid water gave a lot of hope to NASA scientists that the human race could someday travel there.

Simply, microbes living in a harsh landscape have never been more significant before!

Same-sex Marriage Legalized in the US

Back in 2015, the same-sex couples in the US who always dreamt about the opportunity to vow to each other to eternal love really had a good reason to celebrate. Luckily for them, the US Supreme Court finally struck down all bans on same-sex marriages and legalized them in all fifty states.

The struggle that same-sex couples had been facing trying to fight for themselves lasted for more than half a century, from the 1970s when they first tried to seek legal recognition for their situation. All they wanted was equal rights, however, their fight remained unsuccessful.

Finally, people started to gain some more understanding of same-sex couples’ needs, and in 2004, Massachusetts became the first state in the US and the sixth jurisdiction in the world to officially legalize same-sex marriage.

The rest is history.

The UN Climate Change Conference

We can all witness today that our beautiful planet is, sadly, slowly dying, and it’s not since yesterday. For a very long time, we have been doing selfish things that began ruining everything around us.

To help the world not to disappear in the future representatives of the 174 countries all around the world gathered in Paris in 2015  at The UN Climate Change Conference. They signed the agreement about what to do to prevent the global temperature rise.

The parties even agreed that somewhen between 2030 and 2050 there will have to be zero emissions in case we want to reduce the global temperature by 1.5˚ Celsius.

Do you think we can all unite and do such a thing? The clock is ticking.

The Revenant Premiered

The year 2015 brought us a movie that was even proclaimed one of the best in the 2010s by the critics – The Revenant. And it was special for sure because Leonardo DiCaprio was finally good enough for the Oscars jury to award him for all this talent and hard work.

The story of the movie is also one of the most interesting ones we’ve seen in a long time, would you agree? Well, it was based partly on the 2002 novel of the same name by Michael Punke, and partly on the 1915 poem The Song of Hugh Glass.

Yes, Hugh was such an important person back in the 18th century that he even got his own poem. No wonder – he survived a grizzly bear attack despite being left to die by his friends, and then got his revenge after walking and crumbling for more than 300 kilometers.

Sounds impressive right?

So is the number of awards won by this amazing movie – three Gloden Globe Awards, five BAFTA Awards, and three Academy Awards (Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography) out of 12 nominations.
